Renewable energy company Windlab has secured federal environmental approval for two Queensland wind projects, one of which is set to supply power to mining giant Rio Tinto.

The federal and NSW governments have committed $2.5 billion to save Rio Tinto's Tomago Aluminium smelter in the Hunter region. 

Monadelphous Group subsidiary Kerman has secured a $165 million Rio Tinto contract for the design and construction of facilities at the mining giant's Brockman Syncline 1 project in the Pilbara.
