A judge has thrown out the truth defence claimed by the ABC and Fairfax Media in a case brought by Chinese billionaire and philanthropist Dr Chau Chak Wing.

A Fairfax Media article over the death of a criminal figure during nose surgery had destroyed the practice of a prominent cosmetic doctor, a court was told Thursday.

A defamation case against the Australian Broadcasting Corporation by Nauru’s Justice Minister David Adeang that was set down for trial in July has been sent to mediation by a busy Federal Court judge, who said he would not be available to hear the trial for another year.
